Ductile Iron Piston Rings & Seals for Heavy Pounding, High Stress Applications

Ductile Iron piston rings and seals (also referred to as Nodular Iron) can withstand a lot of bending and is very resistant to breaking. The iron’s microstructure contains rounded (or nodular) shaped grains. These grains help increase the material’s strength & enables it to bend without breaking. Ductile Iron piston rings and seals are roughly twice as strong as Gray Cast Iron piston rings & seals.


Ductile Iron piston rings and seals are best suited for applications where the ring will experience impact or rapid change in direction.

This material does not have the microstructure matrix of Grover’s piston ring iron GC-211 and will induce higher wear on the bore. Grover’s engineering department will provide special installation instructions.
